Burnout rarely begins with a resignation—it starts with silence. Through interviews and research, I discovered that many employees avoid asking for help because they fear being judged, appearing weak, or affecting their career growth. Existing workplace tools make communication visible, but they don't create a safe way to ask for support privately.
The Quiet Exit introduces a discreet support signal inside Slack, allowing employees to privately notify their manager when they need help. The interaction remains invisible to coworkers while giving managers clear, actionable ways to respond before disengagement turns into attrition.
What we do in this project.
Designing for trust, not just communication
Designing for emotionally sensitive moments required balancing privacy, transparency, and misuse prevention. Every decision—from placing the feature inside Slack's existing status workflow to limiting visibility and creating structured manager responses—was intended to reduce hesitation while maintaining accountability.
Rather than adding another communication channel, the solution integrates into an environment employees already use daily, making it feel familiar, low-friction, and trustworthy.
